Mystical Life: A Playlist

1. “Alice in Wonderland” by Joanna Wang

“How do you get to wonderland? Over the hill or under land? Or just behind a tree?” These lines are a great presentation of what it feels like to search and desire for a dream mystical life. I can just see a girl in a beautiful rose dress looking for an entrance that’s just not there.

2. “Howl's Moving Castle” by Joe Hisaishi

I don’t even think I have to explain why this song is on this playlist. The entire song just takes you on a ride to a world you never knew before. The feeling this song portrays is like no other.

3. “Amore mio aiutami” by Piero Piccioni

This song is my personal favorite, it never fails to make me feel as if I just woke up from a long dream in a flower field, and was welcomed back by the sound of a waterfall nearby. Piero Piccioni is truly a genius.

4. “Mystery of Love” by Sufjan Stevens

The soft voice and sound make me feel as if I am being sung with a whisper by a distant lover from a faraway land that I once knew.

5. “In A World of my Own” by Katheryn Beaumont (Alice in Wonderland)

Alice’s little song of her describing her far away wonder world and all the little things that happened, the places, and the people she met are perfect for this playlist.

6. “Runaway” by Aurora

“And I kept runnin’ For a soft place to fall.” This describes perfectly how it feels to be chasing a desired place that does not exist.

7. “Welcome Home, Son” by Radical Face

This song gives me “I got stuck in the real world for a long time and I’ve finally made it back” vibes. I imagine someone coming back to their mystical world and seeing all the old friends and places they left behind. They’ve finally returned and relief and joy washes over them.

8. “Old Cape Cod” by Patti Page

This song is of Patti describing an ideal place, so I HAD to add this here.

9. “Rises the Moon” by Lianna Flores

If you ever feel like putting on an ethereal outfit and go pick out raspberries and strawberries, this song is definitely a go-to.

10. “Constellations” by The Oh Hellos

This whole song makes me feel like I’m in a forest in the middle of the night looking at the stars and the moon while catching fireflies in a jar with the help of forest ghosts.

11. “Woodland” by The Paper Kites

“Won't stop running till we reach the sun. Chasing all the things that are keeping us young” These lyrics give off the feeling of freedom in a place where no worries exist.

12. “Pangaea Girls” by Candy Claws

The melody and the chaotic noise give off the feeling of a bunch of mythical creatures and talking animals all rejoicing and dancing in a circle all day long till their heart's content.

13. “Richmond Bridge” by Piero Piccioni

Another classic Piero Piccioni song. It reminds me of a wife waiting for her husband to return to the world of magic once more.

14. “The Spirit of Excalibur” by Enaid, Diane Arkenstone

The whole album gives off medieval pirate vibes and I adore it. I choose this song specifically because the melody is particularly relaxing.

15. “Soldier, Poet, King” by The Oh Hellos

THIS IS JUST A CLASSIC. I mean the storytelling of a hero to come. I can just a wise lady telling every child this story as they all dance a dance of hope. Who knows, you might be the hero they are waiting for.

16.“Strawberry Blond” by Mitski

This just SCREAMS two villagers in LOVEEE. They are living THE DREAM LIFE. Plus every playlist needs at least one Mitski song.

17. “For the Dancing and the Dreaming”

This song makes me feel as if I’m a mermaid serenading a lonely sailor to slowly make him fall in love with me, and then I kiss him and drag him all the way down into the depths of the ocean. What a lovely meal.
