Poem: Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln

Beneath the frigid dawn,

the sun begins to wake.

Blood-red streaks of twilight are fading throughout the sky.

The town mourns in grief

as tears plead from our eyes.

He has left us.

The father of our country.

Our leader.

His soul still rests on another cloud passing in the sky.

Yes he has died but he had died a good death.

His last breath still lingers in Washington, D.C.

He stands near the doorways at Ford’s Theatre

meeting the modern day.

He has pride in our country.

“ A new nation conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are

created equal.”

He has created a strong country

and this strong country will remain.

But if it falls,

we have lost a new day.

Our hearts have grown weary

but its time to bow our heads.

I’m sorry father we couldn’t hold your hand

on the day you left

but you have held ours ever since,

Thank you.
