Movie Review: Whiplash
Whiplash is a movie about Andrew, an ambitious drummer who strives for success, and Terrence, a ruthless jazz conductor. When Terrence invites Andrew to play for him, Andrew quickly learns how intimidating and demanding Terrence is. Terrence’s ruthless and degrading techniques and Andrew's obsessive determination take you on a thrilling story of a teacher and his student working together to reach success. The pace of the movie keeps you engaged the entire time. The actors do an excellent job making the events of the movie feel real that at times, it feels like you are being yelled at by Terrence, or getting as frustrated as Andrew. The performances are so impressive that J.K Simmons, who plays Terrence, won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. The shots and movements of the camera are truly mesmerizing and successfully highlight the importance of certain scenes. Overall, this is a great film to watch if you’re looking for something to keep you on the edge of your seat and maybe even inspire you.
