Empathy

empathy

empathy
makes up the seeds
in the garden of life.
which must mean
compassion
makes up the leaves
and resilience makes
the flowers grow ten feet.
we must be mindful
of the garden we are planting
and the path we are making.
we must be ambitious
with the chances we are taking
and purposeful
with the words we are speaking.
what is a garden
without leaves
trees
bumblebees
who sting
flowers
rain showers
butterflies
blue skies?
after decades of time
the garden will provide
long lost chances
last dances
stolen glances.
blink too fast
the chance will be gone
the dance will be over
the roses will have grown thorns
and the garden will need water.
keep the garden warm
protect the garden from storms
plant the seeds
root your garden in
empathy.
