window poem

window poem

Looking out a window

in the house of a friend

To see an everyday view

I visit in daydreams

I turn green like spring-summer grass

When facing concrete sidewalks

Coffee shops

Stop lights and crosswalks

Bicycles, laughter, friendly faces

That for so long haven’t belonged to me

A song plays over the public radio

That I have sung solemnly only to myself

A stranger in a world that is so familiar

For years desired

The smaller details of growing up
