her

her

she said, “stop treating me like a kid

she said it as she sat down along the sand

hair beach-ily damaged

and skin nicely tanned

that’s when she asked me,

“would you remember me in a year?”

slowly her eyes drifted to the sand

not ready for the tear

and chuckling i couldn’t forget her

the way the beach had stared

at someone who stood by me

and someone who actually cared

Oh, I’ll remember the time

where the sun had kissed her cheeks,

scattering freckles along her face,

lasting weeks

fireworks sparkling

like a thousand wishes

that never came true

that’s when she said,

you’re the only one that came through

she smiles above all

she laughs above everyone

looking at her tears,

Thinking god, what have I done

the summer memories,

always are a blur

but it was all worth it,

since it was all for her
